Recently i’ve heard of a rumor going around that isn’t true. It’s actually about me, and i’ve heard many others going around as well. Out of all places the heart of this rumor is in the high school ministry of compass bible church…True North. Im ashamed to hear such things being spread throughout such a great church with solid biblical doctrine. The bible says a person who gossips isn’t a good person to be around (Proverbs 20:19), and Jesus says that one day we as Christians are going to have to give an account for EVERY careless word ever spoken (Matthew 12:36). We need to watch out for gossip, and stop it because the bible is clear nothing good or spiritually beneficial can come out of it.
28 A perverse man stirs up dissension,
and a gossip separates close friends. Proverbs 16:28
Gossip isn’t only un-Godly it’s also dividing. Gossip is a dangerous thing to do on all levels every way you look at it. What this verse is saying is gossip can and will seperate even the closest of friends. Why gossip is going on in true north? I dont know…but it has to stop. And this isn’t some new 21 century new covenant idea, but God exhorted the Israelites in Leviticus to not spread what is slanderous among them as well (Leviticus 19:16). Gossip is sin. And the bible is clear we need to be fighting this off! It’s not encouraging, it isn’t uplifted, it shouldn’t be tolerated. If we’re going to take our God seriously we need to obey what He commands. So if you’ve taken part in this true north gossip, and are feeling convicted good. Lets all make an effort to stop this, and give God all the glory!
